About Me: My ADHD Story Meets Yours

My Journey to ADHD Coaching

  • Growing Up as a High Achiever with Hidden Struggles: As a kid, I was a high-achiever, always striving for perfection. Despite my successes, I had to work extra hard, masking my ADHD symptoms even though neither I nor my family understood what was really going on in my brain.

  • Gaining New Perspective at the University of Toronto: My academic journey led me to the University of Toronto, where I earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts (HBA) with High Distinction in Anthropology. Focusing on Environmental Philosophy and Medical Anthropology, I developed a deep fascination with how people make wellbeing-related choices.

  • Discovering a Passion for Helping Others: After graduation, I worked as a case worker, arranging supports to allow elderly clients to live independently in their homes. Visiting with isolated seniors, I discovered my knack for counseling and realized I wanted to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives this way.

  • Building a Foundation for Best Practices at the University of Pittsburgh: I then decided to pursue my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree at the University of Pittsburgh, a top-ranked program focusing on evidence-based practice. This education gave me a solid foundation in applying research-backed methodologies and developing clinical skills, particularly in working with children and teens with ADHD, OCD, and behavioral disorders, along with their families.

  • Making a Difference Through Counseling and Coaching: After earning my MSW, my career shifted to working with students at Carnegie Mellon University, a University of Texas branch campus, and an elite college prep school in Pittsburgh, in coaching and counseling roles. I obtained my clinical licensure, emphasizing my commitment to evidence-based care. I focused on enhancing clients' executive functioning and helping them achieve their goals, always bringing warmth, comfort, and humor to each session.

  • Embracing and Teaching Self-Compassion: In 2018, I completed intensive training with Dr. Kristin Neff, the world’s foremost self-compassion expert. Research showing that ADHDers particularly struggle with self-compassion inspires me to combine this knowledge with my ADHD expertise. I create a safe, accepting space for all identities, and watching clients develop self-compassion is incredibly rewarding and central to my practice.

  • Experiencing a Life-Changing ADHD Diagnosis: With the birth of my daughter in February 2020, I faced the challenges of first-time parenthood during the Covid pandemic. My usual coping mechanisms began falling apart, leading me to seek an ADHD diagnosis. Discovering my inattentive type ADHD was a profound revelation. Drawing on my self-compassion, I gained a better understanding of my past and a clearer vision for my future.

  • Transitioning from Therapist to ADHD Coach: Now in private practice, I see so many misconceptions of ADHD in the mental health field, even from those with only good intentions. I have trained as an ADHD coach because I believe ADHD is a unique way for the brain to function: it is not a deficit, but a brain structure with immense potential.
